We LOVE IT when a plan comes together!
At The Backroom, we’re known for delivering outstanding branding and design. That’s our speciality, and we like it that way. But our clients often have wider needs, including copywriting, photography, printing, web development, animation and more.
And we’re not ashamed to admit that we know our limitations. While we pride ourselves on our creativity and expertise, we know that some projects require specialised knowledge beyond our core team. That’s when we call in the experts. It's a bit like the A-team - while we can definitely handle the design battle, we know when it’s time to assemble a team of specialists to take things to the next level.
So that’s exactly what we did when ICD Europe, a global leader in the supply of primary metals, superalloys, and minor metals, approached us with the task of creating a memorable, eye-catching company brochure. The goal was to deliver a brochure that would sit proudly on the coffee tables of global CEOs. With ICD Europe’s phenomenal growth since 2016 - and in a year that included the opening of Australia’s first metal processing facility and receiving the prestigious Kings Award - they needed a brochure that reflected their innovation, excellence, and global presence.
We were ready for the challenge, tasked with not only delivering the design but also managing the entire project. Here’s the ‘A-team’ team we assembled to bring this vision to life:
This project required a photographer who could not only capture high-quality images but also tell a story with every shot. Enter Andy Gallagher, an award-winning photographer renowned for his innovative approach to visual storytelling. Andy’s ability to capture the essence of a company, its people, and its products was key to making ICD Europe’s brochure not just a visual representation but an experience in itself. His work provided the perfect foundation for the entire brochure design.
No project is complete without the right words to accompany the visuals, and for us, Sam Walker is our go-to copywriter. Sam’s ability to distil complex ideas into clear, impactful messaging is unmatched. For ICD Europe, she worked closely with the team to craft content that perfectly captured the company’s growth, innovations, and future aspirations. The copy had to not only convey key information but also reflect ICD Europe’s global impact and commitment to quality - a task Sam handled with finesse.
A brochure’s impact doesn’t end with the design and content - the printing quality is equally crucial. For this, we turned to Northend, our trusted local printing experts. Known for their precision and quality, Northend’s team ensured the brochure had the right feel and finish. The piece was printed on 170gsm Edixion Offset, giving the brochure a refined and tactile quality, enhancing the premium nature of the finished product.
The printing process itself was a marvel, as we opted for an energy-efficient SRA1 LED-UV press. This press delivers an exceptional print finish on uncoated material, and it allowed us to capture the deep Night Offshore Blue colour we envisioned. The result was a striking, high-quality brochure that reflects ICD Europe’s premium position in the market.
Managing the project
Of course, none of this would have come together without careful planning, coordination, and management. As the design agency behind the project, we took on the responsibility of managing all aspects of the process - from initial concept to the final printed product. Our team ensured that every detail was considered, and every deadline was met, liaising with the team, and with the client, to bring their vision to life.
The end result? A brochure that not only stands out visually but also communicates ICD Europe’s innovative spirit and global success in a way that resonates with their high-level audience. It’s a brochure that makes an impression on everyone who sees it, and it’s safe to say the client is thrilled with it too.
